Obituary for Suzanne Hamberry

Suzanne Hamberry
Suzanne C. Hamberry, of Brooklyn, NY, passed peacefully on the eve of Wednesday (August 9, 2017) at her home in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, where she had lived for over 47 years with her two dogs Kiki Mama, Toto and dear friend Gregor, she was 69.

She was born on July 11th,1948 in Montreal, Canada. Where she lived with her mom and dad Ursula Blake, and Romuald Bayard, and three siblings Andre Bayard, Michel Bayard & Francis Amiglio. She attended the elementary school of St. Nicholas-Diel and graduated from the St. Pius X high school in Montreal.

At the age of 18 she left Montreal and set out to achieve the American dream on her own in the county of Kings also known as Brooklyn. A single parent she raised her two kids in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn on a tight budget working as an accountant during the day while seeking a higher education at night at the Long Island University where she received her Bachelor's Degree. With that degree she began her career of teaching in the inner schools of Brooklyn where she taught French. Her diligent work gained her numerous awards and a grant from the French embassy to take a group of inner kids to Paris. A servant to the public, teaching inner city kids French wasn't enough so she began night school and within a few short years she had her Masters Degree in School Psychology. All the while her body began to fail her with the debilitating disease of rheumatoid arthritis. Even though her arthritis would crippled her and eventually put her in a wheelchair, her strong minded spirit and love to help people would give her the strength to carry on her work with inner city kids but this time as the Head School Psychologist at P.S. 56 The Lewis H. Latimer school in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn.

She is survived by her loving son Michael Green and devoted daughter, Amy C.Orr; and four grandchildren, Gavin Michael Green, Nora Leigh Green, Gaia Rose Orr and Schuyler Joseph Orr and many nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored.

A memorial service will be held on August 26th, 2017 at 11AM at the Old First Reformed Church in Brooklyn, NY located at 126 7th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11215 followed by a burial ceremony at the Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent in her name to the Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue, 419 McDonald Ave, Box 180523, Brooklyn NY 11218.
