Condolences

Condolence From: Joan Elena
Condolence: Dear all, I worked with Rick in San Miguel de Allende for the last 3-1/2 years before he moved to Florida in May of 2012. I managed a team of caregivers whom helped him with personal care, getting around town and his diabetes management. During these years together, Rick's caregivers and I formed on odd, but VERY close little family and the news of his passing has hit us very hard. Though I've lost touch with some members of Rick's care team, I remain in close contact with Alejandra Morales, Rick's primary caregiver and personal nurse. She was with him for all the 3-1/2 years I was employed by Richard's family, and for nearly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the last 6 months of his residence in San Miguel, and the first 3 weeks of his stay in the assisted living facility in Boca Raton. I personally would like to emphasize how close Rick became to Alejandra and her family during the 3-1/2 years we all worked together. When Alejandra's first grandchild was born last spring of 2012, Rick wanted to give her the name "Elizabeth", and that is the name the family gave this little baby girl. Rick LOVED having Elizabeth over for visits and absolutely beamed with pride over her. This is a beautiful memory for all us! I think it should be duly noted that though Rick had no children or grandchildren of his own, there is a beautiful little baby girl here in Mexico who has had Rick's loving, grand-fatherly adoration, and whom carries the name Rick chose for her, Elizabeth. Alejandra, her husband Salvador and their three daughters Cecilia, Dulce and Daniela send their deepest condolences to Richard's family and God's speed to Rick on his journey home to his beloved brother and father. I send love and light to all whom knew and loved Richard and mourn his loss here amongst us. Joan Elena Goldberg

Condolence: Richard was an interesting guy and a fine artist. I have a couple of his works in my home. He was always fun to be with, and I don't know anyone who ever met him who didn't like him. He traveled, and enjoyed his summers, and eventually, his retirement in San Miguel, where he painted and made woodcuts to his heart's content. It's a shame his last few years were plagued with health crises, but that's the way of things. He lived longer than his stupid NYC doctors expected, and went peacefully, for which I am grateful.
