Family memories

I always considered Richard Rosmarin to be an uncle. He was my favorite adult cousin. When I was growing up, he would often come out to our house for dinner. I always looked forward to those events because Richard was fun. He would sit at the table and tell stories and entertain my brother and me all night long. He knew how to connect with kids. He was real. He loved his family and he was happy when he was with us. It was only as I grew older that I learned how much he struggled in life and that he was happy far less often than he was sad. It was something he always hid from me. Richard's struggle is now over and he is in a better place. After 70 years, he gets to be with his beloved brother. His burdens are lifted and he can be happy. In my dining room, hangs an artists proof of a wood cut Richard did about 50 years ago called "Moses." The picture hung in my grandmother's house for decades. When my grandmother died, it was the one item from her belongings that I specifically requested. I look at that picture often and it makes me think of all those family events when we would sit around the table and Richard would make me laugh.
