Passing of Richard Rosmarin, San Miguel de Allende, Gto. MX
This is a copy of the post made to the San Miguel Civil List in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico where Richard most loved living more than anywhere else during the last 10 years of his life:
Richard Rosmarin, prolific artist, teacher, lover of life and
friend of many in San Miguel de Allende passed peacefully in his
sleep on March 5th, 2013. He was 80 years old.
Rick began coming to San Miguel in the early 60's. He was a
friend and colleague of many of the original characters in the
arts scene in San Miguel including Sterling Dickinson and
Leonard Brooks. He had his MFA in Painting from Instituto Allende.
Rick was also a middle school teacher on Staten Island in New
York for 25 years where he taught both Art and English. He loved
teaching and told many stories about his experiences in the
classroom with the kids.
Many people knew Rick as the odd little man with the drooping
trousers and a baseball cap, who sat in the Jardin for hours on
end sketching unaware subjects and pretty much anything else
that caught his attention. When Rick's family moved him from San
Miguel to assisted living in Florida last year, he left hundreds
of drawings, paintings and mono-prints behind in his apt. He was
truly a driven, focused creator.
Rick had a great sense of humor and loved telling jokes. He was
also a very fun and social person. He loved meeting new people
and shooting the breeze for hours on end in the Jardin.
Rick's family is planning a funeral service this weekend in
Westchester, NY. He will be interred alongside his father and
brother whom he has long and dearly missed on this earthly plane.
RIP Ricky. We love you.
