Obituary for Donna Rubens

Donna Rubens (Hendleman) - BROOKLYN New York) artist, teacher, wife, mother and grandparent was 88 years old, died peacefully at her home on December 27, 2019band surrounded by her family.

Born March 30th 1931 in Chicago, Illinois , to Mandel and Anne Hendleman, Donna was a lifelong student, painter and poet. A graduate of University of Michigan in 1953, where she studied English and Education, Donna moved to New York City in 1954, where she met her husband of nearly 50 years, Paul Rubens, who passed away in 2003.

A teacher for NYC/Department of Education for 30 years, Donna went on to accumulate two additional graduate degrees, paint, draw and write poetry and stories about love, loss and life. Her favorite activities included walking and biking, exploring the museums and New York City, spending time with family, and attending classes at QUEST, a City College program for retirees located in lower Manhattan.

Donna is survived by her three children, Mira Rubens and Rachel Leinweber of BROOKLYN, NY, her son Jesse Rubens of Plandome Manor, Long Island, and eight grandchildren Hannah, Maya, Alexandra, Daniel, Elliot, Emily, Jenna and Perry.
